In honour of the 343 FDNY members who sacrificed their lives that day and in memoriam of all the lives lost as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attack, an entry fee of $3.43 will be charged, with all proceeds going to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
This dynamic webinar will focus on a reflection of the failure and collapse of the WTC, its lessons, and the panel’s advocacy for fire safety arts and sciences.
Chief Jerry Tracy will reflect on the failure and collapse of WTC as well as focusing on the need for a multidisciplinary approach to fire safety as it is incorporated into legislation, regulation, standards, and codes. Chief Tracy is credited with developing numerous training programs and SOPs within FDNY, as well as for his ongoing work on high rise fire dynamics and emergency operations.
Dr. Venkatesh Kodur, a member of FEMA’s “Experts Team” into the collapse of the WTC buildings will review the findings as a case study into the current drawbacks in fire safety provisions. Dr Kodur will summarize the conclusions & recommendations contained in the reports produced by NIST and FEMA and will highlight the innovations and research still required.
Chief Peter McBride will advocate for a new national fire laboratory in Ottawa, Canada as part of the ongoing research outlined by Dr Kodur and multi-disciplinary approach advocated by Chief Tracy. Chief McBride will build the case for maintaining Canada’s globally competitive position through the lab’s critical role for product development & innovation within industry, as well as for maintaining safety and confidence in public fire safety.
